Shiraz, the provincial capital of Fars, is known as the cultural capital of Iran, and the “City of roses and poets”. It is the heart of Iran’s history and a center for the rich Persian literary heritage. It has been the cradle of civilization and art for many centuries. Famous philosophers, thinkers and poets produced their masterpieces in this beautiful city.
Shiraz was one of the most important cities in the medieval Islamic world and was the Iranian capital during the Zand dynasty (1747-79), when many of its most beautiful buildings were built or restored. The residents are warm, kind and patient and the city enjoys a relatively calm atmosphere, which makes the tourists have a stress less trip. Shirazi food has a great variety but generally they often use rice with grounded meat. One famous Shirazi dish is called “Kalam Polo”, meaning rice with cabbage and also the famous Shirazi Salad which is praised all over the country. Its’ local confectionary such as Masghati, Muffins, and Youkhe (a type of bread), its’ deserts such as Faloode, and its’ handicrafts such as Khatam, Kilim, Gabbeh, and engravings are well-known throughout the country.
